Fettuccine Rigate Alla Norma



Every family has their 'go to' pasta dish that they make when they don't know what else to have for dinner. I will go out on a limb and guess that the pasta dish that 90% of American families 'go to' is either spaghetti with meat sauce or macaroni and cheese (probably from a blue box). We enjoy these dishes on occasion (definitely not blue box, but home made Mom's Macaroni and Cheese), but our family favorite is Fettuccine Rigate Alla Norma.

Deconstructed S'more Bundt Cake #BundtBakers


The theme of this month's #BundtBakers: Creative S'mores! The challenge: Play with the traditional marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers, but participants are not limited to those components! Cookies, waffles, bacon, berries, homemade marshmallow creme, peanut butter, chocolate hazelnut spread may also be utilized. The options are unlimited.

Fun!

S'mores are synonymous with Girl Scouts. I lead a group of Girl Scout Cadettes (for those of you not fluent in Girl Scout Speak, they are middle school aged). The troop recently met after taking a summer hiatus. Deconstructed S'more Bundt Cake was the perfect way to celebrate the kick-off of a new Girl Scout year!

Ginger-Garlic-Sesame-Soy Winged Beans


As mentioned last week, Winged Beans were my new discovery at the Farmer's Market. Bought them, tried them, loved them!

This week I saw Winged Beans at two different vendors at the 'regular' Farmer's Market in addition to the Asian Farmer's Market. Looks like Winged Beans will be mainstream in the next couple of years!

Whole Grain Maple Oat Scones #BreadBakers


Use of whole grain flour is a great way to make traditional scones a bit more healthy. While it can be argued that it is like driving with the break on due to the amount of dairy fat in this recipe, the addition of whole grain from both oat and wheat sources make an indulgent treat a somewhat more nutritious!

Winged Beans


Seriously. These veggies are the most interesting thing I have discovered in a very long time. I am fortunate to live in California and every Sunday under the freeway in the (almost) downtown of Sacramento, there is an absolutely fabulous Farmer's Market. And the bonus: an Asian Farmer's Market just two blocks away.

"What are these?" I asked one of the vendors at the Asian Market, pointing to the green veggies that look a more like sea creatures than vegetables.
